We wanted to visit Russia for the first time but found our desired trip to St. Petersburg very difficult to plan despite our extensive global travel experience. Through a lucky Internet search, we stumbled upon Alex's Tours & Travel.
From our first e-mail exchange everything became simplified. They handled all the bureaucratic paper work required to apply for a Russian visa; found us a spacious, well-appointed apartment in a top location; developed an itinerary tailored to our limited time-frame and special interests; and treated us like VIP guests from the moment they met us at the airport.
Our guide Elena, a young woman art historian, was perfect in leading us through all the artistic and cultural riches of this magnificent city and could not have been more helpful or charming. Alex and his guides are totally fluent in English and are well acquainted with American tastes and preferences.
When we expressed interest in sampling true Russian cuisine, Alex guided us to superb examples of Russian restaurants. And despite our protests (for fear we would miss something in St.Petersburg during our short stay), he insisted on taking us to Peterhof outside the city, which turned out to be the highlight of our visit. Alex's fees are extremely reasonable, and he is very helpful in navigating the financial and bureaucratic idiosyncrasies of his country.
But best of all is his honesty and marvelous sense of humor. He has become a friend whose services we highly recommend.
